Social Research Centre launches new Qualitative Research Division

In May 2009, the Social Research Centre launched its new Qualitative Research Division, with the appointment of Michael Murphy, formerly a founding partner of Market Access Consulting and Research, as Director of Qualitative Research.

Michael is one of Australia’s leading social marketing and health promotion researchers, having been involved in the development of campaigns for numerous social and health behaviours over the past twenty years.  Of note, his research has contributed to Quit smoking campaigns since the late 1980’s, including several internationally recognised and awarded advertisements.  His experience in behaviour change processes, in the field of complex and addictive social and health behaviours has also contributed to effective social marketing campaigns targeting disease prevention, cancer screening, sun protection, physical activity nutrition and weight management, philanthropy and social welfare. 

Michael’s tertiary background is in Psychology and Health Sciences, he is a full member of the Australian Market and Social Research Society and is accredited as a Qualified Practicing Market Researcher.

To support our new Qualitative Research Division, we have recently added state of the art group rooms with client viewing facilities in our Peel Street location.  Our group rooms at our Victoria Street location remain, allowing us flexibility in style and timing to accommodate clients’ needs.

The Qualitative Research Division complements the Social Research Centre’s service offer to our clients.  Now, as well as our specialist expertise in population surveys, tracking research and evaluation, we are able to offer expert qualitative based research to assist our clients in understanding their target audiences, and providing insights for the development and design of social marketing strategies to change attitudes and behaviours.
