Established in late 2000, the Social Research Centre’s aim is to enhance knowledge and contribute to informed decision-making by undertaking high quality social research.

As a specialist provider of quantitative and qualitative research services, areas of core expertise include:

  • Large-scale survey design, conduct and management

  • Research into contemporary social issues

    While the Social Research Centre is best known for the design, conduct and management of telephone surveys, we also have extensive experience in on-line, mail, face-to-face and mixed methodologies.  We also have a specialist Qualitative Research Division and two purpose-built group rooms with client viewing facilities.  This allows us maximum flexibility with regard to the style and timing of our qualitative research.

    We believe that by specialising purely in social research we are well placed, not only to better understand the demands of such research, but also to strive to continuously improve the methods used.

    The Social Research Centre’s goal is to be acknowledged as a “centre for excellence” in social research.

    The Social Research Centre conducts quantitative and qualitative research across all areas of health and social policy including population health monitoring, community well-being, employment, families and young people, education and training and poverty and social exclusion.  Our Qualitative Research Division has particular expertise in social marketing, health promotion and behavioural change research.

    The Social Research Centre operates a 125-station Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) facility from our North Melbourne offices.  We employ over 40 permanent staff, including 30 research and analytical staff, and approximately 270 interviewers.

    Our operations infrastructure comprises a Quality Systems Manager, a Call Centre Manager, a Recruitment and Training Manager and several project coordinators and supervisors.  Given the sole focus of our business is social research our interviewing team has vast experience in working to the exacting standards required for high-level research of this nature.

    The Social Research Centre has a deliberate policy of building our interviewing team around a core of highly experienced career interviewers.  This approach has enabled us to develop a team of interviewers with specialist social research skills.  Our interviewers have proven ability to achieve high response rates, collect high quality survey data and work in sensitive subject matter areas.

    Our customised CATI software (Quancept) can manage extremely complex questionnaires and rigorous sample management tasks.  Our back-up and disaster recovery systems are state of the art.

    The Social Research Centre has quality accreditation according to the ISO 20252 – Market, Opinion and Social Research Standard.

    Monash University and the Social Research Centre have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster closer links between the institutions.  The MOU will see Monash and the Social Research Centre collaborate on joint grant applications and contracted research projects, work to improve research methodology in Australia and lead to an enhanced exchange of expertise and knowledge between the organisations.
