Why have I been approached to take part in this survey?
As a tenant of public or community housing, you have been randomly selected to take part in the National Housing Survey 2010.

Where did you get my details?
Details of tenant of public or community housing were provided by the housing organisation in your state, with sample members then randomly selected to take part in the survey.

Is the information collected confidential?
Yes.   All information gathered as part of the survey is completely confidential, in accordance with legislative requirements.  The Social Research Centre will not pass on any information that could identify you to your housing organisation, or to any other organisation.

What if I don’t want to participate in the survey?
While you are under no obligation to complete the survey, the feedback you provide helps to identify areas where your housing provider can improve their service to you. If you do not wish to participate, please call the Social Research Centre on (free call) 1800 639 383 and we can remove your details from our list of respondents.

What will the data be used for?
Deidenitified data from the survey (that is, data that does not include your name, address or other identifying details) will be provided to your housing organisation and to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare—Australia’s national agency for health and welfare.
The information from the survey is used to improve the housing services provided to you and other tenants

I have a problem with my home.  What should I do?
If you have a concern about a specific issue, put this aside and think about what each question is asking.  Please do not answer all of the questions thinking about this concern.
If you are having a problem with your home, please contact your housing service provider directly to let them know. The Social Research Centre is unable to pass on any requests for maintenance or repair because this would identify you as a respondent to this survey.

How do I complete the survey online?
You can complete the survey online at http://www.aihw.gov.au/nshs/
You will need to enter the online username and online password which are located in the panel in the top right hand corner of the survey booklet.

I don't have a computer or access to the Internet.  What do I do?
Please complete the questionnaire and return it to us in the reply paid envelope.

I'm having trouble reading the questionnaire or understanding the questions.  What do I do?
Please call the Social Research Centre on (free call) 1800 639 383 and we will help you with the questionnaire.

Some of the questions look the same.  Do I have to answer them?
Some of the questions look similar but they are asking about different types of services that you may have received.

I have a problem with my home.  What should I do?
