The Graduate Outcomes Survey (GOS) is one component of the Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) suite of surveys. The GOS is a national survey of recent higher education graduates being conducted for the Australian Government Department of Education by the Social Research Centre.

The research is being conducted for the Australian Government Department of Education by the Social Research Centre, under the Higher Education Support Act 2003 to conduct the QILT suite of surveys.
Aims + Outcomes
The GOS measures employment and study outcomes and gathers feedback that institutions can use to improve courses and outcomes for future graduates. Based on experiences from graduates, institutions have been able to create better places to study and learn by improving their courses, learning resources, support services and campus facilities.
The results of this survey also help the higher education sector and the government improve students’ course experience and enhance teaching and learning in Australian higher education institutions to improve graduate outcomes.
Methods
Graduates of participating Australian higher education institutions are invited to complete the GOS about six months after they have completed studying. All graduates invited to participate in the GOS are initially approached via email. Some graduates may also receive an invitation via SMS or telephone call.
The GOS has three data collection periods in the months of November, February, and May.

Graduates of participating Australian higher education institutions are invited to complete the GOS about six months after they have completed studying.

What are the benefits?
Based on experiences from graduates, institutions have been able to create better places to study and learn by improving their courses, learning resources, support services and campus facilities.
You could win a prize by completing the GOS. The earlier you complete the survey, the more chances you have to win. In total there are four prize draws open to participants in each collection period.
How does it work?
Higher education institutions provide the department with contact details of in-scope students for the purpose of conducting this research. In compliance with privacy laws, the department has only provided information about you to the Social Research Centre that is directly relevant to this research – all information is transmitted via a secure file exchange.
The survey takes approximately 10-15 minutes, depending on your answers and program of study.

How do we ensure privacy is protected?
The Social Research Centre complies with the Australian Privacy Principles. All personal contact information such as name, email and phone number is removed from the final data. Your responses will be de-identified, held in the strictest confidence and will not be disclosed to other organisations for marketing or research purposes. The responses of everyone who participates in this survey will be combined for analysis. Please see the SRC’s Privacy Policy.
