Prof Toni Makkai


Toni Makkai is Emeritus Professor in the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), ANU. Prior to this she spent 8 years as the Dean of the College, 5 years as the Director of the Australian Institute of Criminology and 5 years as the Secretary of the Australasian Deans of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities.

While Dean of CASS she undertook major institutional reform of research and teaching programs, established sound educational and financial governance structures and processes, and was instrumental in facilitating the creation of the ANU Centre for Social Research and Methods and the purchase of the SRC by the ANU.

She has been an expert adviser on various delegations and has published widely in her fields with over 100 peer reviewed journal articles, numerous chapters in books and government reports and monographs.
