Aged Care Quality Standards Interim Evaluation

The Australian aged care sector is undergoing significant change through the Aged Care Royal Commission and ongoing regulatory reforms. The SRC Evaluation Team was brought on by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission to conduct the first interim evaluation of the newly created Aged Care Quality Standards. The Standards provide a single set of standards for the assessment of all aged care services.
The Evaluation team used the pre-existing evaluation framework for the Standards as the basis for undertaking an evaluation that drew on a mix of primary and secondary methods including analysing documentation on the implementation of the Standards and interviewing key staff within the Commission who had been directly involved in the roll out of the Standards. The evaluation laid the groundwork for future evaluations of the Standards as they are further embedded in the aged care sector.
