Pest Animal and Weed Management Survey

The Pest Animal and Weed Management Survey will provide vital information to assess the impacts and management of pest animals and weeds across Australia. If you have received a letter regarding this, you have been invited as an owner or manager of an agricultural property.

The survey is being conducted by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) on behalf of the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (DAWE). The results will assist DAWE to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and support further program development in improving pest animal and weed management.

Simply go to agriculture.gov.au/pws and enter the unique login code, or scan the QR code printed at the top right of the invitation letter to complete the survey online. If you are unable to complete the survey online, a survey pack with a reply paid envelope will be posted to you. The survey closing date is Monday, 26 September 2022.

If you have received a letter for more than one property you manage or own, please complete a survey for each property. The survey will take around 40 minutes to complete and should be completed by a person over the age of 18 years who has the best knowledge about the property.

This survey is being managed by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) on behalf of the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (DAWE). The Social Research Centre, a national social research company, has been contracted to undertake the fieldwork.

The aim of the survey is to assist DAWE to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and support further program development in improving pest animal and weed management. Responses to the survey will provide vital information to assess the impacts and management of pest animals and weeds across Australia.

The survey is conducted by ABARES from lists of names and addresses obtained from the Australian Bureau of Statistics in accordance with legislative guidelines.

Yes. The survey complies with the requirements of the Privacy Amendment (Enhancing Privacy Protection) Act 2012.

Yes, confidentiality of any information collected will be protected by ABARES. The information you provide to us will be presented as aggregated results only and no individual(s) or businesses will be identified. Your personal contact details will only be used for administering the survey, including follow-up surveys, and analysis of the survey results.

Researchers from ABARES and the Social Research Centre will be provided with access to your contact information solely for the purposes of administering the survey. In addition, a small number of organisations providing printing, collation and data processing services will be provided with limited access to contact information solely for the purposes of administering the survey. All organisations comply with the requirements of the Privacy Amendment (Enhancing Privacy Protection) Act 2012.

You will find it easier to complete this survey if you have some knowledge of the management of pest animals and weeds on the property. Some questions ask about expenditure/days spent on pest animal and weed management. As such, you may need access to your business records for 2020/21 and 2021/22.

The survey should be completed by a person over the age of 18 years who has the best knowledge about the property. This could be the owner/operator, manager or an employee of the business.

The survey will take around 40 minutes to complete. The exact time will depend on the answers you provide. Please complete the survey in the next two weeks.

Yes. If you have received a survey for more than one property you own or manage, we ask that you please complete a separate survey for each property.

Your response to the Pest Animal and Weed Management Survey is strongly encouraged. However, the survey is voluntary (not compulsory). The information that you provide will assist DAWE to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and support further program development to improve pest animal and weed management.
