Survey of Recent Migrants to Australia – Follow-up Survey 2021

The Department of Home Affairs is conducting a follow-up to the first survey in 2020. Invited participants completed either an online, paper or over the phone survey at the end of 2020. This is the first follow-up survey.
The purpose of this follow-up survey is to better understand migrant settlement experiences over the last 12 months. These include changes in your employment situation since the first survey, satisfaction with life in Australia and participation in further education.
The Department has commissioned the Social Research Centre to conduct the interviews. Emails inviting you to participate in the follow-up survey will come from email@example.com. Calls to complete the survey will come from 03 8383 4955. If you receive a missed call from this number, it is in relation to the survey.
The follow-up survey can be completed online or over the phone. You may click on the button below to complete the survey online (you will need the Login code found in the email or letter sent to you), otherwise you will be contacted on the phone number you provided in the last survey.
This survey includes questions about your partner (detailed in the box below). Please make this information available to your partner before you commence the survey.

The survey will provide up-to-date information about recently arrived migrants or migrants who have recently been granted a permanent or provisional visa (that is, new visa holders), including their reason for coming to Australia, their experience of working in Australia, their education in Australia and overseas, and their level of English ability.
The results of the survey will be used to determine how effective the Department’s current policies are. The results will also help the Department understand how well migrants are settling into Australia and the types of issues migrants experience. Understanding these factors enables the Australian Government to provide better settlement services for migrants and to improve Australia’s Migration Program.
The Department is surveying recent Family and Skill stream migrants who have been granted a permanent residence visa or are on the path to permanent residence after being granted a provisional visa. Invited participants completed a survey at the end of 2020.

The SRC is an independent social research company with specialist expertise in social, health and government research services. The SRC has been commissioned by the Department to conduct the Survey of Recent Migrants to Australia. The SRC has a proven track record of delivering high quality professional surveys for a range of government and not-for-profit sector organisations including the Department of Education, Skills and Employment and the Australian Institute of Family Studies.
If you have difficulties understanding English, another member of your household can assist you when answering the survey. The SRC also has interviewers who speak a range of other languages.
We would still like you to take part in the survey, as this is valuable information and the follow-up survey does contain some questions we haven’t asked before.
To give you the best opportunity to participate, the survey will be run over several weeks. If you are away for longer than this, then it is unlikely that you’ll be able to take part.
